The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) DG has announced a call for tenders for a study on pre-validation of an in vitro test or tests for the induction of drug metabolism in human hepatocytes. The European centre for validation of alternative methods' (ECVAM) goals are to identify tests capable of discriminating a compound's potency to induce biotransformation enzymes as an alternative to the use of in vitro animal models, for the examination of the induction potential of new chemical entities and to provide a test or tests for eventual consideration by the regulatory authorities. The aim of the study is the pre-validation of in vitro tests for detecting the induction of human biotransformation enzymes. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General Joint Research Centre ECVAM Validation of biomedical testing methods unit Attn: Dr S Coecke Via Fermi 1 TP 580 I-21020 Ispra Tel: +39-03-32 98 06 43 Fax +39-03-32 78 53 36
