Continuing EU-India Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation

A team of 11 EU and 3 Indian partner organisations developed the work of an earlier project, extending EU relationships with India. Such efforts established and promoted a new partnership programme, new funding mechanisms and communication between the EU and India.

India is an important collaboration partner for Europe. A previous EU venture (NEW INDIGO, 2009-2013) successfully ran schemes for managing calls for proposals and funding of joint EU-India research. A second EU-funded project, INNO INDIGO (Innovation driven initiative for the development and integration of Indian and European research), continues and expands New INDIGO's work. This latest initiative expects to implement at least three Indo-European joint calls for proposals. Further goals include optimising the project's outreach and facilitating networking of funding organisations. Such organisations will be offered full participation in all aspects of implementing the calls. The undertaking also addresses the marketing of ideas, support for young researchers and developing new forms of collaboration. First-period work began with setting up key project management structures and routines. Subsequently, the team began compiling relevant material and existing studies, fine-tuning the analytical approach and discussing questionnaires. Dissemination work involved setting up a website, creating information material and participating in various events. The group facilitated communication with all relevant external bodies: the European Commission, the EU-India Group of Senior Officials and several other European Research Area (ERA) groups. Administrators set up, and publicised to funding stakeholders, the INNO INDIGO Partnership Programme (IPP) and joint calls for proposals. Additional achievements include the set-up of a Platform for Funders and discussion of strategies to attract further innovation stakeholders. Examination of suggested mechanisms for joint funding showed the proposals to be attractive and technically feasible. Furthermore, the suggestions added value to the collaboration. INNO INDIGO continued where its predecessor left off, having successfully enhanced Indo-European mechanisms of funding and cooperation. As a result, Indian funding agencies are better connected to ERA activities, hence, broadening the scope of possibilities for European and Indian researchers to join forces.
