Article 37 of the Euratom Treaty requires that each Member State provide the Commission with general data relating to any plan for the disposal of radioactive waste so as to make it possible to determine whether the implementation of such plan would result in the contamination of the water, soil or airspace of another Member State. The Article further requires that the Commission deliver its opinion within six months, after consulting a group of experts. A new Commission Recommendation (91/4/Euratom of 7.12.1990) lists the types of radioactive waste-producing operations which fall within the meaning of the Article and describes in detail the kinds of data which should be provided to the Commission. This Recommendation replaces Recommendation 82/181/Euratom (OJ No L 83 of 29.3.82).
