RTD programme in biomedicine and health
The Commission submitted on 14 December 1990 (COM(90) 676) an amended proposal for a Council Decision adopting a specific RTD programme in the field of biomedicine and health (1991-1994). The programme will include research into: prevention, care and health systems; major health problems and diseases of great socio-economic impact (AIDS, cancer, cardiovascular disease, mental illness and neurological disease, and ageing); human genome analysis; biomedical ethics. Close coordination will be maintained with relevant research programmes such as: Biotechnology; Life Sciences and Technologies for Developing Countries; Telematics Systems - Health Care; Medical Research under the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) Treaty; Europe against Cancer. The proposed total appropriation is ECU 133 million.
