Report on thyroid cancer in Chernobyl children
The specific multiannual research and training programme in the field of radiation protection (1990-1992) has issued the conclusions of an expert panel examination of reported increased rates of thyroid cancer in children living near Chernobyl at the time of the nuclear reactor accident of 26.4.1986. The report documents the findings of the panel with respect to the occurrence of this condition in Belarus as of November 1992 and makes strong recommendations for urgent technical and humanitarian assistance and research cooperation.
