The European Commission has proposed the setting up of an EU-Jordan Association Council and a number of subcommittees, one of which is to focus on research and innovation. The subcommittee on research and innovation shall be composed of representatives from the Commission and their counterparts form the Government of Jordan. It will be chaired alternately by the two parties. Representatives from the EU Member States will also be invited to attend subcommittee meetings. The role of the subcommittee will be to discuss the implementation of the EU-Jordan Association Agreement in the following areas: - the development of scientific and technological capacity, in particular the use of research results by the industrial and sector and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs); - innovation, dissemination of knowledge and technology transfer; - electronic communication networks and services; - information technologies; - cultural cooperation and audiovisual policies; - networks of decentralised cooperation. While the subcommittee will not have any decision-making power, it may submit proposals to the Association Council.
