The Commission has published a call for proposals under the specific programme in the field of marine science and technology (MAST), for the assessment of risks and adverse impacts likely to affect the marine environment as a result of the use of marine technologies and techniques. The call is restricted to the following two topics: - Adverse impacts on marine biota associated with the application of acoustic technologies and techniques; - Adverse impacts on marine biota associated with the application of antifouling technologies and techniques. Research topics will be addressed, in general, by shared-cost research and technological development projects. Proposals may be submitted by interested legal entities (enterprises, research institutions and universities) located in the European Union or, under certain special conditions, in other countries. Each project must include, in general, at least two contractors in two different Member States. Where projects are related to MAST activities, each consortium of applicants must involve at least one participant from the relevant MAST projects. The maximum total budget for the support of projects under this call will be limited to ECU 3 million. The objectives and topics covered by this call are described in more detail in the background materials, available on written request from the Commission's services: European Commission DG XII/D-3 MAST II Proposals (SDME 3/78) 75 rue Montoyer B-1040 Brussels Telex COMEU B 21877; Fax +32-2-2963024
