R&D operational programmes launched in Greece

A series of operational programmes aimed at implementing the Community Support Framework for Greece have been approved by Mr. Bruce Millan, the Commissioner responsible for Regional Policies (DG XVI). A sum of ECU 6,520 million has been granted to the programmes.

The programmes adopted concern:

- Industry and services (ECU 720 million);
- Research and technology (ECU 316.2 million);
- The environment (ECU 76.7 million);
- Health and preventive measures (ECU 226.4 million);
- Energy (ECU 352.1 million);
- Natural gas (ECU 354.6 million).

The operational programme for research and technology aims at reinforcing Greece's techno-economic capacity in order to attract investments and stimulate added-value production at the level of its products and services. The following areas are covered:

- Support of research and technology activities in economic sectors;
- Industrial research, technology transfer, and innovation;
- Reinforcement and restructuring of research infrastructure;
- Human resources.
