Commission and Black Sea countries to launch Black Sea Regional Energy Centre
Following the conference on "The new energy realities of the Black Sea region" held in Greece in May 1994, the European Commission and representatives of the Energy Ministries from the ten Black Sea countries met in Brussels to translate the conference conclusions into concrete joint actions. It was decided to establish a Black Sea Regional Centre as an important basis for future cooperation in the field of energy. A working document was agreed outlining the operation of the future Centre and a Declaration of Intent signed to initiate the steps towards its establishment. The Centre, established under the Community's SYNERGY programme, will be located in Bulgaria for an initial trial period of three years. The chairmanship of the Centre's Steering Committee will be held initially by Romania, rotating thereafter in alphabetical order.
