AIDS research at EC level
In the field of biomedical and health research, the European Commission, DG XII, has published a comprehensive report on "AIDS research at EC level". The book provides an overview of the research activities carried out under the fourth development coordination programme in the field of medical and health research (1987-1991), in which about 600 research teams from 19 countries collaborated within 31 concerted action networks and centralized facilities. The programme has been important in developing an active and interactive HIV research community in Europe. As demonstrated in the book, research activities focused on the following areas: - Research in AIDS disease control and prevention (epidemiology); - Viro-immunological research (basic research); - Clinical research on AIDS; - Development of vaccines against AIDS.
