Spotlight on European research
Over the last twenty years, the research and technological development programmes and projects of the European Union have nurtured a common European scientific and technological culture and contributed to world class scientific discoveries and technical innovations. In this context the European Commission, DG XIII, has published "Spotlight on European research". The report presents significant results from Community research projects. In particular, it illustrates the diversity of research areas, the technological fields and transnational partnerships in European RTD for the Second and Third Framework Programmes. The report is intended to provide an insight into Europe for the sciences and to demonstrate the work done by the European Union to meet the scientific and technological challenges for the benefit of future generations and the innovation enterprises. The following areas are covered: - Electronics, information and communications technologies; - Industrial materials and technologies; - Medicine; - Agro-industries and food technologies; - Research and technologies for developing countries; - Energy.
