Development of a European Network of local action groups
In a written question from the European Parliament concerning the incorporation if the Atlantic Arc network of local action groups under the LEADER II establishment of a European innovation and rural development monitoring system, Commissioner Fischler reiterated that the LEADER II initiative is based on a European rural development network. It is intended to promote active solidarity between rural areas through the exchange of achievement, experience and know-how involving all concerned; national administrations and their decentralized bodies, local governments, local development groups, socio-economic partners and associations. He said that local action groups in the eligible territories of the Atlantic Arc will be members of the European network. The LEADER II network is managed by the European Observatory for Innovation and Rural development.
