Standardized frameworks for the communication of audio/video commands
On 2 August 1990 Philips International BV, in agreement with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd, submitted to the Commission a request for negative clearance or exemption in respect of an Agreement concerning the establishment of a joint venture company entitled D2B Systems Co. Ltd to develop a standardized framework for the communication of commands and related data between different brands of audio/video consumer electronics products such as TVs, VCRs and CDs. In view of the fact that the Agreement appears to contribute substantially to technical progress and to serve the interests of the consumer, the Commission proposes to take a favourable position and invites interested third parties to send their observations to the given address, quoting reference IV/33.667 - Philips/Matsushita-D2B.
