The European Commission, DG 1A, has approved an initial aid package of ECU 62.5 million to assist reconstruction in Bosnia and Herzegovina, under the PHARE Essential Aid Programme.

To enable the projects to get under way as rapidly as possible, the Commission has appointed two external procurement agents to take responsibility for all aspects of the projects' implementation, under Commission supervision.

The aid will be given for contracts in the following priority sectors:

- Equipment supply to public institutions;
- Agriculture;
- Transport;
- Water and sanitation;
(Procurement agent: Europa)

- Health;
- Housing;
- Energy;
- Education.
