The European Commission, DG XII, has published a call for proposals for RTD actions (supporting initiatives) to be carried out under the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of marine science and technology (1994-1998) (MAST III). The objectives and the research, technological development and demonstration activities covered by this call for proposals relate to Area D (Supporting initiatives) of the MAST III work programme and, in particular, to: - Sub-area D.2: Standards for training and work; - Sub-area D.3: Modelling, ocean-data management and quality control for research and operational applications; - Sub-area D.4: Use of heavy experimental equipment, research vessels and their modular equipment, large computing facilities and other technical resources in the European Economic Area; - Sub-area D.5: Design of components and systems for heavy advanced equipment; - Sub-area D.6: Calibration techniques and standards for marine instrumentation and observational equipment. Supporting initiatives are measures implemented by the Commission to complement or coordinate research activities. As such, some measures are essentially a management tool operated by the Commission. Other measures will be closely integrated with ongoing project activities. The work programme, the information package concerning the procedures to be followed for the submission of proposals, and a copy of the model contract to be drawn up for the proposals accepted are available on written request from the Commission's services. Descriptions of work undertaken in earlier related programmes are also available on request. Requests for supporting documentation and proposals for RTD actions should be sent to: European Commission DG XII - Science, research and development Unit XII/D-3 - MAST Programme 200 rue de la Loi (SDME 7/80) B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2963024
