Innovative radio initiatives and European and multilingual TV channels
The European Commission, DG X, has published a call for proposals in the area of innovative radio initiatives and European and multilingual television channels. The 1996 budget of the European Communities (item B3-2012) provides for the support of: - Innovative radio initiatives, such as the introduction of a digital radio system and the creation of European multilingual radio broadcast networks, as well as the creation of a citizens' radio on a European scale; - Initiatives concerning European and multilingual television channels which are either culturally oriented or for general public information purposes. The present call for proposals covers the following actions areas: - Action 1: Innovative radio initiatives, including: . Digital radio systems; . Multilingual European radio networks (current affairs and entertainment); - Action 2: Citizens' radio on a European scale; - Action 3: European and multilingual television channels which are culturally oriented; - Action 4: European and multilingual television channels which are public-information oriented. The budget available for the implementation of projects in these areas is: - ECU 650,000 for Action 1; - ECU 100,000 for Action 2; - ECU 500,000 for Action 3; - ECU 900,000 for Action 4. The financial contribution awarded by the Commission may not exceed 50% of the cost of selected projects.
