EU Host for ACTS programme
As part of the ACTS specific RTD programme in the field of advanced communications technologies and services, the European Commission, DG XIII, has set up an EU Host for the programme. The EU Host is part of an experimental electronic public service (EPS), the purpose of which is to demonstrate innovative modes of interaction and information exchange with ACTS project partners, senior officials of Member States' governments, and other organizations. The EU Host is also available as a test-bed for other trials and demonstrations of EPS provision, as a complement to the network of ACTS National Hosts. The objectives of the EU Host are twofold. Firstly, the aim is to implement an electronic public service, which would include the following tasks: - Distribution of documents; - Supporting personal communications; - Document processing. The second objective relates to supporting the information window concept, outlined in the ACTS workplan. This entails providing information about achievements or ongoing work of ACTS projects to both the ACTS constituency and the general public. The EU Host provides users with access to a wide variety of services, including ISDN (integrated services digital network) and ATM (asynchronous transfer mode).
