Potential developments in the European telecommunications market
The European Commission, DG XIII, has published an open call for tenders for the completion of a study on the development market for combinations of network services and terminal equipment. In particular, the Commission is interested in the extent to which proprietary interfaces between networks and terminals will be a feature of the future market. The impact on the independence of the terminal equipment market should be assessed. The study should identify what actions, if any, are necessary to ensure that the interests of the European consumer and manufacturer are protected. The results of this work will be used by the Commission to assist in the formulation of policy in the regulation of telecommunications terminals in the context of liberalization of telecommunications infrastructures.
