Evaluation of S&T cooperation with Asia, Latin America and the Mediterranean
An external, independent evaluation of European scientific and technological cooperation with the countries of Asia, Latin America and the Mediterranean has been carried out at the request of the European Commission (DG XIII). The results of this evaluation have now been published by the Commission in a report entitled "Evaluation of the activities of scientific and technological cooperation with countries of Asia, Latin America and Mediterranean (ALA/MED)(1989-1992)". The evaluation covers the following cooperation activities: - International Scientific Cooperation (ISC); - AVICENNE (Science and technology cooperation initiative with the Maghreb and Mediterranean countries); - The Information Technologies (IT) and Communications Technologies (CT) schemes. The aims of the evaluation were: - To assess the scientific and technical achievements of S&T cooperation activities; - To assess the impacts and benefits of the activities; - To identify priority lines of action and research activities; - To evaluate the efficiency of programme management. In particular, the evaluation was to provide guidance to the Commission on the integration of S&T cooperation activities with these partner countries into the Fourth RTD Framework Programme.
