Impact of new steel technologies on the restructuring of the industry
The final report of a seminar entitled "Impact of new steel technologies on the restructuring processes of the pan-European steel industry", organized by DG III of the European Commission, held in Brussels in November 1995, has recently been published. The seminar, which involved the steel industry of both western and eastern Europe, aimed to discuss common problems faced in an environment of increasing trade liberalization and globalization. The following topics were covered: - New technologies, from users' and suppliers' points of view; - The competitive effects of new technologies; - The effects on employment and labour; - Availability of financing; - Management issues.
