Systems Engineering and Informatics Institute - Annual Report 1995
The Systems Engineering and Informatics Institute, part of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), has published its Annual Report for 1995. The Institute's activities during 1995 were split between: institutional research and competitive research under the Fourth Framework Programme; support for Community policies for individual Commission Directorates General; and contract work for third parties. With a permanent staff of around 200, and visiting staff of around 40, the Institute is organized into eight units. In 1995, the Institute conducted research activities in a number of the specific RTD programmes, including Environment and Climate, Non-nuclear energy (JOULE/THERMIE), Nuclear Fission Safety (NFS), and Controlled Thermonuclear Fusion. On a competitive basis, the Institute participated in shared-cost actions in the Advanced Communications Technologies and Services (ACTS) programme and the INCO programme for international cooperation. It also bid successfully for funding from other specific programmes. In addition, the institute participated in a number of networks established by the Human Capital and Mobility (HCM) programme of the Third Framework Programme. The Institute for Systems Engineering and Informatics was merged with the Institute for Safety Technology, at the end of 1995, as part of the reorganization of the JRC. This new Institute, to be called the "Institute for Systems, Informatics and Safety", started operating in 1996.
