Patent information on CD-ROM
The European Patent Office (EPO) and the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) have launched an invitation to tender for the provision in services relating to the publication and distribution of a CD-ROM version of patent information. The contractor will be required to take data from the First Page Data Base (FPDB), which is an English language collection of nearly all the world's patent literature, maintained by the USPTO, the EPO and the Japanese Patent Office (JPO). This database contains a single record of each patent granted, removing duplication where the patent has been granted in several countries. The JPO has already started regular production of a CD-ROM version of the Patent Abstracts of Japan, using MIMOSA software and Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML). The current tender, which is being managed by the USPTO on behalf of the two offices, under US Government acquisitions procedures, is for CD-ROM publication of the remaining portions of the FPDB, using the same format. The tender also includes regular updates of the CD-ROM.
