MEDIA programme - Transnational distribution
The European Commission, DG X, has awarded a total of ECU 10 million to support the transnational distribution of European audiovisual works under the MEDIA programme. The MEDIA programme supports both the development and distribution of European audiovisual works and the training of European professionals in the audiovisual industry. The awards have been made following applications to the second call for distribution support, launched in July 1996 (OJ No S 146 of 31.7.1996 p. 33). This support for transnational distribution falls into four categories: - Support for distribution of 17 new feature films (ECU 3.1 million, to 65 distribution companies); - Support for distribution of recent feature films on video (ECU 696,500, to 14 companies); - Support to independent production companies for the transnational broadcasting of new television productions (ECU 5.3 million, for 29 new productions); - Support for independent distribution companies for the compilation and marketing of catalogues of around 310 European audiovisual works (ECU 830,000, to 13 distribution companies).
