The European Commission, DG XVII, has published a call for expressions of interest relating to the establishment of a list of experts/companies interested in providing services for the implementation of the ECSC Coal Research programme. The Commission launches a call for proposals every year within the framework of the ECSC Coal Research programme. The evaluation of proposals is carried out by independent evaluators. It is important that these experts are highly qualified and experienced in the specific research field in which they make evaluations. They must also be independent of the organizations that submit proposals. The Commission maintains an extensive list of experts from which a selection can be made for the three coming years. It is the objective of this call to draw up such a list, from which it will be possible to contract experts every year, following an appropriate procedure. It is also intended to select experts from this list to carry out studies on the status of technology in some research fields. This is necessary to allow the Commission to correctly develop the terms of reference of the calls for proposals. Services required are divided into five technical fields: - 1) Coal-mining operations, including: . Techniques of coal winning; . Roadway drivage and support; . Mine climate and ventilation; . Water pollution control; - 2) Mine infrastructure and management, including: . Integrated management of operations; . Transport and communications; . Exploration and mine planning; . Applications of geophysics in mining; - 3) Coal preparation, including coal cleaning, quality control, ease of handling, and blending; - 4) Coal conversion, including: . Metallurgical use of coal (coke); . Coal-derived products and upgrading; . Pollution control; - 5) Coal combustion and gasification, including: . Conventional and advanced power generation; . Combined heat and power systems; . Control of emissions; . Disposal and utilization of residues. Candidates must specify the sub-lists (technical fields) in which they are interested. A candidate may apply for several sub-lists. Applications should be sent to: European Commission DG XVII - Energy Mr. J. K. Wilkinson 200 rue de la Loi (TERV 5/14) B-1049 Brussels Applications must be placed inside two sealed envelopes. The inner envelope should be addressed as above and marked "Invitation for calls for expression of interest No 28/DG XVII. Not to be opened by the internal mail department".
