Second EC-GIS workshop
The proceedings of the second EC-GIS (Geographic Information Systems) workshop, held in Genoa, Italy in June 1996, have recently been published. The workshop was organized by the Institute for Systems Informatics and Safety, part of the Commission's Joint Research Centre. The aims of the workshop were to review progress in European GIS projects and identify possible synergies between ongoing projects. The workshop also aimed to discuss emerging issues relating to the formation of a European GIS infrastructure and assist in formulating longer-term objectives for Commission-funded activities in the field of GIS. The book of proceedings contains a selection of the papers presented at the conference, including all those addressing European issues. There is also a report of the final discussion held at the close of the workshop. A separate publication, containing abstracts of all presentations at the workshop, is being prepared separately.
