Joint initiative delves into our evolution
Fact-finding missions on the subject of evolution cover pressing issues, from a better understanding of antibiotic resistance to meeting the challenges of genetically modified foodstuffs. One exhibition took an interdisciplinary approach and offered up the latest information as well as the controversies surrounding related theories. First realised at the Dresden Deutsche Hygiene-Museum in Germany, the exhibition aimed to promote understanding of the processes involved in evolutionary events and to explore why this is of importance in our daily lives. Following this, the 'Joint exhibition on evolution' (EUEV) project set the goal of successfully transferring the innovative exhibition to a second location, the Città della Scienza in Italy. The EU-funded project focused on relocation, locale adaptation which included translation of materials, and training of staff. Content was adapted for the second show and new showcases were developed as needed to suit the new host facilities. The evolution exhibition was successfully presented at its second venue, with a host of educational programmes and activities on offer for visitors. A project website linked the two institutions' websites for knowledge transfer beyond the physical exhibition. ċċMaking information relevant for the two institutions and their audiences, EUEV boosted dialogue between science and society and highlighted issues important for the European community. Comprehensive press coverage further enabled dissemination of the content and exhibition highlights to a diverse audience.
