Better training to meet the demands of globalisation
However, given the increased mobility of goods, services, labour and information, a need has been identified to consolidate the European Research Area (ERA) in education, training and lifelong learning to increase its effectiveness in light of increased globalisation. The ‘Supporting international networking and cooperation in educational research’ (Sincere) project was developed to foster collaboration and information dissemination among educational research communities and policymakers in Europe, Latin America and South East Asia. In particular, the Sincere project sought to provide a basis for guiding the restructuring of international education research with an eye toward the future. the researchers focused on Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) projects in the area of social sciences and humanities (SSH) as related to research on education, training and lifelong learning. representatives from Europe, Latin America and South East Asia came together to brainstorm scenarios for the evolution of research on education and lifelong learning. The participants included policymakers, researchers, trade union members, teachers, students and ordinary citizens. The conferences also provided important information regarding current European research projects as well as opportunities for funding. the outcome of the collaboration and networking was published as the Sincere Roadmap and White Paper for the internationalisation of educational research. This paper is expected to have an important impact on educational research funding and funding policies for EU Member States and their ministries of education in particular. in summary, if education and lifelong learning are to keep up with the rapid pace of globalisation, the EU must restructure educational research objectives and funding and enhance collaboration with Latin American and South East Asian partners.
