PHARE: Waste-disposal plan, Germany
An invitation to apply for admission to a restricted call for tenders for a project financed by the Commission of the European Communities concerns the development of a waste-disposal plan for the Free State of Saxony, taking account of the inherited situation (PHARE project No 90/058/030/001). Its subject is the elaboration of practical recommendations for waste disposal with consideration of material and time constraints and acceptability criteria. On the basis of a fundamental study of patterns of settlement, economic activities, transport and waste-disposal structure, the aim is to develop waste disposal guidelines designed to reduce and/or recycle waste, sort it at the collection stage and dispose of it in an environmentally acceptable manner. A study will be made of waste volumes and composition, places of generation, recycling and disposal, with a view to developing a step-by-step plan of measures to be taken. Hazards of stored waste and oil will be assessed and procedures proposed for the making-safe, cleaning-up and future operation of the installations involved.
