MET - Multimedia E-learning Training: Technologies for E-learning authoring, a new didactical model to turn implicit knowledge into experiential learning contents
MET is an interactive education&training tool for disaster managers. It was conceived within the EU Projects GATE (Gamma Trial for Emergencies and Environment) AND GAMMA-EC(Gaming And MultiMedia Applications for Environmental Crisis management training). MET enables authors, lacking programming skills, to develop multimedia training courses in a user-friendly way. It is based on the concept of scenario, a simulation of an emergency situation in which the learner is asked to solve problems and make decisions, by applying general knowledge in specific contexts. The learning process is based on exercises: several scenarios simulating realistic emergencies can be played by the student, who acts as a disaster manager. To inprove decision-making skills a student is asked to answer questions and undertake actions, facing the consequences of its wrong initiatives. A background handbook containing detailed cards covering all domain topics maybe easily recalled from any point of a scenario. The tool is operated by a browser, and hence may be accessed through the Internet (individual training) or in a local network (multimedia classroom). Course contents may be entirely generated and updated through an interactive authoring module, which does not require any programming skill to be used.,For more information:,http://www.tno.nl/instit/fel/gate/,http://www.tno.nl/instit/fel/gamma_ec/
