BIOTECHNICA 2003 Award (English)
BIOTECHNICA Hannover not only ranks as the worlds leading trade fair for biotechnology; it is also a pivotal forum for the exchange of ideas and information between the scientific community and industrial users. From 7 to 9 October 2003 some 1,000 biotech and life-science enterprises will present their products and services to an international audience at the Hannover Exhibition Center in Germany. This years BIOTECHNICA will boast the premiere of the European BIOTECHNICA AWARD for Excellence in Biotech Business. This new award will further enhance the appeal of BIOTECHNICA, in particular to high-tech companies. This award is intended for small and medium-sized European enterprises in the fields of biotechnology or the life sciences with proven success in launching innovative products or services, or in implementing promising new business concepts. To qualify for the competition, applicants must have a successful track record of at least two years in the above markets. As such, established newcomers qualify to participate, but not recent start-ups. Prize money,The total prize money amounts to 30,000. The winning firm will receive 20,000 in cash. In addition to the top prize, a maximum of three special prizes will be awarded, together valued at 10,000. These prizes which are being provided by Deutsche Messe AG and other award partners include participation in worldwide BIOTECHNICA events, an advertisement and PR campaign in BIOCOM publications, and consultancy services by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. Target group,All applicants must be SMEs in the fields of biotechnology or the life sciences, with headquarters based in Europe. The definition of an SME as used by the EU shall apply, as per the following stipulations:,- no more than 250 employees,,- annual balance sheet total no greater than 27 million and,- annual turnover no greater than 40 million. The winners will be chosen on the basis of the following criteria; business plans will not suffice for evaluation purposes:,- Market appeal/potential of products and/or services,- Scientific/technical relevance of products and/or services for the market,- Convincing marketing concepts,- Degree of scientific innovation,- Successful realization of the business model and complementary strategies and ,- Business professionalism. Legal framework,Participation in the competition is voluntary and free of charge. The jurys decision shall be considered final, with no express or implied right to legal recourse. The applications will be evaluated by an independent jury in a non-public procedure.
