STN Easy for Intranets: professional supply of information to end users in enterprises and academic institutions
Karlsruhe/London, November 2003 - STN International, leading provider of specialized sci-tech information, has complemented its range of user interfaces with an interesting version aimed to supply end users in enterprises and academic institutions with information in an professional way. STN Easy for Intranets enables information professionals to seamlessly integrate online databases and full-text supply systems into their company or campus intranet. At the same time, the system provides numerous sophisticated administration features, e.g. individual administration of access authorizations, access to selected databases can be made available to/blocked for certain users and user groups, integration of full-text information sources, cost center allocation. Besides, STN Easy for Intranets offers the possibility of integrating a wealth of value-added services which can help the information professional to support end users in procuring information. For example, the information professional can perform searches with the full power of STN in any of the over 220 STN files and share the results with all end users or certain workgroups on the STN Easy for Intranets site. STN Easy for Intranets unites two different groups of information users: information professionals and end users, explains Wendelin Detemple, Head of the E-Business Department at FIZ Karlsruhe, the German operator of STN International. This reflects STNs policy to strengthen the position of information professionals as information managers. When using STN Easy for Intranets the information professional acts as a Site Administrators for his organization. The system helps him to enable the end users to carry out standard searches for information themselves via the corporate intranet. STN Easy for Intranets offers the end user a new convenient possibility to quickly access high-quality information. The sources of information are permanently available online. The use of STN Easy for Intranets does not require passwords or identification codes; information can be obtained without using a retrieval language. The easy-to-use administration software STN Easy for Intranets-Setup Assistant can be used free of charge. Database searches and retrieved information have to be paid for as usual. No additional hardware or software is required. At the customers side, the system exclusively uses standard web browser technology. All functions required for information retrieval and user management are running externally on the STN servers where the customer defaults are hosted, too. Thus the Administrator only has to administrate the user interfaces and user access rights, whereas the software maintenance remains with the provider. Prerequisite for the implementation of STN Easy for Intranets is an STN customer account for which the IP-Address-Authorization has been installed. STN Easy for Intranets will be presented at the Online Information exhibition 2003 from December 2 - 4, and also on the STN user meeting taking place in London one day earlier.
