The European Commission, DG XVII, has published a call for proposals for actions within the framework of its multiannual programme for the promotion of energy efficiency in the Community (SAVE II).

The Commission is inviting the submission of proposals for:

- Sectoral targeted pilot actions aimed at accelerating energy efficiency investment and/or improving energy use patterns;

- Measures to foster the exchange of experience aimed at promoting better coordination between international, Community, national, regional and local activities by appropriate means of information dissemination;

- Specific actions in favour of creation of energy management agencies at regional and urban level;

- Studies aimed at the implementation and completion of Community-wide measures taken to improve energy efficiency.

Proposals should address the following areas:

- 3.1 Rational use of energy in buildings;
- 3.2 Rational use of energy in equipment;
- 3.3 Rational use of energy in transport;
- 3.4 Rational use of energy in industry;
- 3.5 Demand side management and integrated resource planning;
- 3.6 Education and training concerning energy efficiency;
- 3.7 Promotion of combined heat and power;
- 3.8 Creation of regional and local energy agencies;
- 3.9 Information activities;
- 3.10 Studies aimed at the implementation of Community-wide measures.

The Community contribution to these projects (3.1 to 3.9) will be up to a maximum of 50% of the total cost. Studies (3.10) may be funded up to 100%. In general, for actions 3.1 to 3.7 and 3.9 to 3.10 projects should involve at least two non-affiliated partners from different Member States of the EEA. For action 3.8 projects should involve at least two regional or local authorities from different Member States or the EEA.
