Value-added patent information on STN International

Leading provider of sci-tech online databases offers search and analysis software for post-processing of patent information / new French and British patent databases / new alert service for Derwent World Patents Index announced

Karlsruhe/London, December 2003 - FIZ Karlsruhe, European service center of the leading provider of sci-tech online databases STN International, will present several new patent databases at the Online Information 2003 (London, December 2 - 4). This enhancement of its product range will further strengthen STNs prominent position on the global market for patent information. Rainer Stuike-Prill, Head of the Marketing Department at FIZ Karlsruhe, explains the advantages of STN: Reliable patent information combined with sophisticated software functions make our databases a valuable tool for strategic competitor analysis. The various post-processing options provided by our powerful access and analysis system add a considerable amount of value to the patent information. The new reference database FRANCEPAT contains abstracts of patent applications and patents published by the Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle (INPI), France, since 1966. The new databases FRFULL and GBFULL to be launched on STN in 2004 will provide full-texts of French and British patent documents. New alert service WPI First View,Thomson-Derwent, database producer and sales partner of STN, has developed a highly interesting alert service with its brand-new database WPI First View, a complementary file to its renowned World Patents Index (WPINDEX). In WPI First View, patent information from the 16 most important industrial nations worldwide as well as from other countries is published without further processing, thus making it available on STN as quickly as possible after publication by the respective patent offices. Regular searches are aimed to support the strategic monitoring of international markets. STN International currently hosts approx. 220 sci-tech online databases, 30 of which are exclusively dedicated to patent information. Numerous other specialist databases, e.g. in the fields of chemistry and biotechnology, also provide subject-related patent information. STN International can be accessed either through proprietary data networks or via the Internet. Several databases can be searched at the same time. Upon request, automatic alert (SDI) services regularly search for relevant information according to predefined search queries from customers. The retrieved information can then be further processed. Special STN software tools, e.g. STN Express with Discover!, allow to conduct competitor analyses, to create statistics, and to present the results as excel charts or diagrams to be used in Management-Reports. Full-texts of patent documents can be retrieved using the STN Full-Text Solution. Documents electronically available with a supplier of full-texts can either be directly displayed or ordered online with FIZ Karlsruhes document delivery broker service FIZ AutoDoc. This service can also procure documents which are only available in printed form. ,For more information please contact: ,FIZ Karlsruhe,STN Europe,P.O.
