The European Science Foundation (ESF) has published an updated programme of European Research Conferences (EURESCO) planned from May to October 1998. The conferences are supported by the Euroconferences activity which forms part of the EU's Training and Mobility of Researchers programme (TMR). Events will take place throughout Europe and will cover a range of scientific areas.

The conferences are grouped by subject area and the topics, dates and locations are as follows:

- Physics:
. Cluster-Surface Interactions - Fundamentals: Cargese (Corsica), France, 23-28 May 1998;
. Fundamental aspects of surface science - Elementary processes in surface reactions: Acquafredda di Maratea, Italy, 20-25 June 1998;
. Computational physics for nanotechnology - Atomic and electronic dynamics in nanostructures: Castelvecchio Pascoli, Italy, 19-24 September 1998;
. Quantum optics: Castelvecchio Pascoli, Italy, 29 September-4 October 1998;

- Chemistry:
. Molten salts: From structural aspects to waste processing: Porquerolles Island, France, 27 June-3 July 1998;
. Reactivity in organized microstructures - Structure, dynamics and functionality in nanoscopic systems: Wiesbaden-Naurod, Germany, 18-23 July 1998;
. Inorganic chemistry - Design of functional systems, inorganic environmental and medicinal challenges: San Feliu de Guixols, Spain, 4-9 September 1998;
. Supramolecular chemistry - Advanced materials: Kerkrade, The Netherlands, 10-15 September 1998;

- Materials:
. Surface engineering for protection of metals and alloys: Surface state of metals and alloys and its modification for protection: Granada, Spain, 21-26 August 1998;
