A conference displaying the latest European pollution control technologies will be held in London, United Kingdom, on 3 and 4 December 1998. The conference will focus on technologies which aim to limit the environmental impact of the hydrocarbons industry and will provide oil operators, contractors and technology developers with the opportunity to learn about some of the new European products. The event will be supported within the EU's specific RTD programme for the promotion of energy technology in Europe (THERMIE).

It will be opened by a representative of the European Commission who will introduce and present the key aspects of the THERMIE programme. The topics to be covered in detail during the conference will fall under the following headings:

- Pollution prevention methods and reducing contaminants;
- Treatment of oil spills;
- Detection and monitoring;
- Environmental modelling.
