The TERENA-NORDUnet Networking Conference 1999 on the challenge of Gigabite networking will be held in Lund, Sweden, on 7-10 June 1999. The conference is intended to focus on areas such as quality of service and billing in response to increasingly high expectations of service standards and the problem of scalability.
Presentations will take the form of panel debates and discussions as well as invited and reviewed papers, and short presentations on previous results. The topics covered will include Gigabite technologies, quality of service developments, and network security. Special emphasis will be placed on electronic commerce, advanced applications, and government policy and regulatory issues. The sessions will highlight new Internet initiatives in Europe, the Nordic areas and North America. There will also be a series of technical meetings throughout the conference, and an exhibition area.
The conference targets one of the themes of interest to the European Commission's Information Society Project Office. It is directed towards technology innovators, policy and decision makers, and Internet service providers and their users. The conference is being organised by the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association (TERENA) and the Nordic Networking Association (NORDnet).
Particular attention will be paid to the following areas:
- Gigabite technologies;
- Security, Electronic commerce;
- Quality of Service developments;
- Advanced applications;
- New forms of electronic content via high-bandwidth networks;
- Government policy and regulatory issues.
