Dr Anderson will first review, with reference to New Zealand, global trends relevant to the issues canvassed in Limits to growth.
She will then discuss how New Zealand, as a small, geographically isolated Pacific state none-theless plays an important role in global research and policy debates about sustainability. Drawing on New Zealand's unique geographical position and biodiversity, Dr Anderson will show how this country uses its research capability to address sustainability issues of national and international importance -biodiversity, use of natural resources particularly water, energy production and, critically for our economic wellbeing, how we have become a world leader in sustainable food production for global markets.
In the final section of her presentation, Dr Anderson will outline how New Zealand's researchers and scientists are contributing to the global effort to address issues such as climate change and food security.
