Ocean forecasting conference

One of the series of European Research Conferences co-sponsored by the European Science Foundation and the Commission of the European Communities, an Ocean Forecasting Conference will take place in Acquafredda di Maratea, Italy, on 22-27 April 1993.
The theme of this first Conference is the link between ocean observations and ocean modelling. Seperate aspects of the theme will be considered on each of the four days. In addition, the final lecture on each day will focus on special topics in forecasting which could form the central topics of future meetings in this series.
Particular topics to be discussed include observation techniques and data assimilation, forecasting on different timescales, the design of ocean observation networks, and issues related to ocean modelling.
Fourteen specialists from the Member States of the European Communities plus one USA expert will speak on topics ranging from the forecasting of seasonal and interannual ocean variability, ice modelling, forecasting of geochemical oceanic cycles, to ocean/atmosphere coupling, and the coupling between shelf seas and the open seas.
The Conference receives support from the specific programme of RTD in the field of human capital and mobility, 1990-1994.
