European telework week
Under the slogan: 'For a competitive and sustainable Europe', over 200 events organised on local, regional and national levels will increase awareness of the telework agenda.
This European wide event has previously resulted in new telework initiatives, and has triggered broad media attention.
There will be an award ceremony on 5 November 1999 in Brussels, where the European Telework award will be presented. This, and other events, will be broadcast live over the Internet.
Telecommunications policy is crucial to Europe's information society, and the European Commission is actively encouraging its development. The European Telework Agenda 1999 aims to create the appropriate conditions for new businesses by providing support for technology development and pilot projects, and raising public awareness. The agenda comprises a whole series of events, including Telework week.
A further event, Telework 99, is a European assembly initiated by DG XIII. It is dedicated to 'Telework and new ways of working'. On 22 to 24 September 1999 politicians, union representatives, employers, industry and academia and telework pioneers will gather in Aarhus, Denmark to broaden understanding on new ways of working among decision makers.
