CEN, the European Committee for standardisation, intends to be visible in current discussions about food safety in Europe. The organisation it believes it has valuable experience to offer in drafting harmonised methods of analysis as well as promoting the global standard for quality assurance systems.

As a result, CEN is organising a seminar on the 10 October 2000 in Brussels. The first half of the day will focus on analytical methods for detecting genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and screening methods for detecting irradiated food. The second half of the day will focus on the way new instruments can safeguard confidence in the monitoring of food safety.
