Venice City University, in cooperation with the Commission of the European Community's COMETT programme (for cooperation between universities and industry on training in the field of technology) will host the 5th COMNET European Forum on "The European Dimension in Education, Training and Research" on 7-9 October 1993.

The forthcoming months will be crucial for European educational programmes such as COMETT, TEMPUS and FORCE as well as for the network of University/Enterprise Training Partnerships (UETPs) created as a COMETT initiative, other similar organizations, and their educational and industrial partners. Against this background, the Forum will provide timely insights into the future development of Community actions in education and training and their impact on industrial and educational bodies.

The three-day event is planned to be highly interactive and participative, with short presentations by industrial as well as educational experts and by representatives of the European Economic Community. In addition, a number of workshops will focus on the following topics:

- East/West collaboration. The restructuration of Eastern and Central European higher education systems;
- TIT. Exchange of technology transfer management information with discussion of the different methods in use throughout Europe;
- Biotechnology. Development of distance training materials and short courses;
- MIS. Electronic information exchange to meet COMNET's requirements (including interactive student placement and staff exchange);
- CEE. A contribution to the implementation of a European system for Continuing Engineering Education;
- Community Action. Working group to coordinate responses from Member States regarding CEC Vice-President Professor A. Ruberti's initiative "Guidelines for Community Action in the field of Education and Training".

The event organizer, COMNET is a European Association launched in 1987 and now composed of 117 UETPs or similar organizations. It is the largest European network concerned with multilateral exchanges and contacts in the field of education and training in advanced technology, with activities extending from student exchanges to the marketing of products. Apart from actions undertaken in the context of the COMETT programme, COMNET is also involved in many complementary programmes, such as DELTA.

COMETT Venetio is a grouping within COMNET established by universities in the region in cooperation with local/regional business consortiums. Particular areas of interest are: Environmental management; the innovation process in industry; and the development of new methodological approaches and of didactical instruments for continued training.
