The European Science Foundation (ESF) is organising a conference entitled 'Putting our solar system in context: origin, dynamical and physical evolution of multiple planet systems' from 25 to 30 April 2010 in Obergurgl, Austria in cooperation with the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck.

The event's first goal is to create a global picture of the origin and evolution of multiple-planet systems and extrasolar planets orbiting stars in multiple stellar systems by comparing the latest findings with new theoretical developments in the field. This could help in the design of incipient European Space Agency (ESA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) exoplanet research programmes and could guide future observing campaigns.

The conference also aims to promote the integration of solar system science into the astronomy of exoplanets. To date, exoplanet research has been driven by astronomers, while planetary scientists have by and large focused almost exclusively on our solar system. However, merging expertise in planetary science with the new discoveries outside the solar system could greatly enrich both areas of research.For further information, please click:
