The Sixth International Congress on Biocatalysis will take place from 2 to 6 September 2012 in Hamburg, Germany.

Biocatalysis is the use of natural catalysts such as protein enzymes to perform chemical transformations on organic compounds. Such process is of particular importance for sectors such as the food industry, since the production of wine, beer, cheese etc. is dependent on the effects of microorganisms. Biocatalysis is also used by the pharmaceutical industry to produce fine chemicals.

The event will bring together researchers and stakeholders to discuss evolving branches of biocatalysis and industrial biotechnology. Session topics will include:
- enzyme discovery, recombinant production, synthetic biology and design;
- structure-function analysis and modelling;
- ezymatic and whole cell biotransformations;
- bioprocess engineering and downstream processing;
