Language Engineering Convention 1995

The Language Engineering Convention 1995 will take place in London on 16-18 October 1995. This convention, organized by the UK Department of Trade and Industry in collaboration with the European Commission, is aimed at promoting the transfer of emerging and current technology in speech and language processing applications and services.

Activities carried out under the Language Engineering area of the Commission's Telematics Applications programme will be presented at this event and the third call for proposals in this sector will be discussed. Proposed topics to be covered by the conference include:

- Automated language translation;
- Language aids for speech therapy and the disabled;
- The impact of speech technology;
- Information extraction;
- Technology authoring and localization;
- Language engineering standards;
- Text-to-speech synthesis;
- Re-usability of linguistic resources;
- Interactivity issues;
- Language resources;
- Quality assessment;
- Global marketing in a multi-lingual/multi-cultural environment.
