International seminar: Forest industries towards the third millenium

An international seminar, entitled "Forest industries towards the third millennium - economic and environmental challenges", will take place in Joensuu, Finland, on 18-19 March 1996. The seminar is being organized by the European Forest Institute (EFI) and is sponsored by the Finnish Foundation for Economic Education. It is supported by the European Commission.

The objective of the seminar is to review, in an international context, the state-of-the-art of economic and environmental challenges faced by the European forest industries at the onset of the third millennium.

The seminar is aimed at representatives of forest industries, forest owners, researchers, administrators and professionals dealing with matters related to the theme.

Topics to be covered include:

- World forest resources - trends and prospects;
- Mergers, economies of scale and internationalization of forest industries;
- Economic and environmental competitiveness of forest industry products;
- Economic impacts of environmental protection;
- Independent certification of forests and forest products.
