The XIIIth Oceanology International Conference and Exhibition (OI'96), a major international marine science and ocean technology event, will take place in Brighton, UK, on 5-8 March 1996. An estimated 6000 marine scientists, ocean technologists and experts in every aspect of oceanography from around the world are expected to attend this event.

Topics to be covered in the conference include:

- Acoustics;
- Data management;
- Operational oceanography: ocean resource management, environmental impact studies and polar issues;
- Operational modelling;
- Remote sensing: satellite based technologies and their marine applications;
- Sensors to measure physical and biogeochemical variables;
- Waste disposal;
- Technology aids for mariners;
- Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS);
- Coastal zone management.

The European Commission's specific RTD programme in the field of marine science and technology (MAST III) will be presented at the OI'96 Exhibition, which will feature a wide range of equipment, technologies, scientific research projects and services for applications worldwide.
