Reading without paper

An international workshop entitled "Reading without paper" will be held in Bruges, Belgium, on 5-7 June 1996. It is organized within the framework of the HARMONY (horizontal action for the harmonization of accessible structured documents) project of the Community TIDE programme for disabled and elderly people (1993-1994). The workshop will receive support from the European Commission (DG XIII) under its specific RTD programme in the field of Telematics Applications.

The aim of the workshop is to increase the awareness of problems in making information available to those who have difficulty in accessing the printed word, including the blind, deaf-blind, partially sighted, motor impaired, dyslexic and elderly. The programme will include sessions on the following aspects of accessible structured electronic documents:

- Reader needs and publisher needs;
- Online digital publishing;
- Service delivery for print-disabled persons;
- Matching publishing and accessibility;
- The HARMONY action plan.
