4 November 1996 - 4 November 1996
Austria
The second European Telework Week (ETW'96) will take place from 4 to 11 November 1996. Under the patronage of Commissioner Martin Bangemann, this year's event will build on the success of the first Telework Week which took place in November 1995 and attracted wide-spread public attention.

Telework is high on the agenda in discussions about Europe and the Information Society. The issues range from social questions raised by the prospect of many more people working at home, to the competitiveness of European industries and the questions of where and how the new jobs of the Information Society are being created. The scope of debate is wide, from practical matters such as health and safety at the "home workplace", to strategic opportunities such as the possibility of reducing traffic congestion and pollution through telecommunication-transportation trade offs. The aim of the European Telework Week is to raise awareness of the issues involved and promote constructive debate.

ETW'96 will be launched on 4 November 1996, in Vienna, Austria, by the "European Assembly of Telework and New Ways of Working". Other key events of the week will include:

- Telework UK '96: London (UK), 6-8 November 1996;
- Teleworking UK: New Lanark (UK), 8 November 1996;
- Telework Deutschland '96: Bonn (Germany), 11-13 November 1996.

ETW'96 provides opportunities for everyone who has an interest in telework: employers, teleworkers, unions, suppliers of telework technologies and services, policy makers and environmentalists. It will feature a wide range of international, national, regional and local events and activities across the European Union.

The European Telework Weeks are supported by DG XIII (Telecommunications, information market and exploitation of research) of the European Commission.
