The second REBUILD conference on the European cities of tomorrow, with the theme "Shaping our European cities for the 21st century", will take place in Florence, Italy, from 1 to 3 April 1998. The event is organized by ETA Florence, WIP Munich and NTUA Athens, with support from the European Commission (DG XVII).

The aim of the conference is to promote the development of the citizens' urban environment from a global, innovative and resource-saving viewpoint, in an environmentally sound manner, using advanced models of organization which bring together the improvement of quality of life, the restoration of social equilibrium and the protection of cultural heritage. It will bring together urban policy-makers and planners, representatives of local authorities, municipal utilities, social and economic actors from the building sector and those involved in energy production and consumption.

The main topics to be addressed by the conference are:

-Urban planning for sustainable development;
- Protection of cultural heritage with low energy technologies in building restoration and construction;
- Sustainable mobility in the urban context.
