The 14th annual AGORAL (Association of chemists and engineers and agricultural and food industry managers) meeting will take place in Nancy, France on 26 and 27 March 2002. The event will focus on 'anticipating, analysing and managing food hazards'.

The event is being organised by French universities' food engineering departments. A parallel brokerage or technology transfer event will be organised by Alsace-Lorraine's Innovation relay centre (IRC), aimed particularly at SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) and technical or scientific centres, but also at anyone with or seeking innovative technologies in the food industry field.

The event will cover the following issues:

- study, prevention or minimisation of microbiological, toxicological or technological risk
- new methods using modelling approaches to risk and the consumer's perception of risk
- emergence of new risks
- management of crisis situations in the food processing sector
- anticipating dangerous situations and risk management
